After his tearful goodbye with his best friend, David heads to the priestly town of Nob, where, we find out (21:9), he has stored the sword of Goliath. Presumably, in storing the weapon there, David must have had a prior relationship with Ahimelek, which also explains why, of all places, he went to Nob. When David arrives, however, the priest is inexplicably fearful of David’s presence. Ahimelek’s initial questions likely suggest the origins of his fear as he asks David,
